Explosive Self Defence System (ESDS) in AberdeenWhat is ESDS?The Explosive Self Defence System is a method of protecting yourself if you’re attacked or think that you’re in danger. It was developed by experts at the International Police Defensive Tactics Association (IPDTA) and is based on natural mental and physical human reactions to a wide range of threatening situations. ESDS is not a martial art; it can be learned quickly and easily by anyone and applied to real life events. So what will you learn? Our ESDS classes in Aberdeen cover 6 critical components that will give you peace of mind when you’re out in the city; Verbal de-escalation – Learn how your body language and spoken language can combine to de-escalate threatening situations and help you avoid being involved in any physical confrontation. Non-violent high risk stance – Discover how to adopt this open-handed stance and how body language can play a big part in defending yourself against violent attacks. Open hand methods – ESDS uses open-handed methods to reduce the visible area of attack and is especially important in situations where you’re confronted by someone who’s armed. Understanding human behaviour – In volatile situations, the human body often reacts instinctively. This part of the ESDS training looks at how you can control the behaviour of your potential attacker through using a few simple methods. Instinctive reactions – If you think you’re going to be attacked, your adrenaline will kick in very quickly and cause you to act instinctively. ESDS looks at how to use the body’s natural instincts in helping to defend yourself. Understanding the human body – While ESDS is all about self defence there are certain situations that will require you to make some form of physical contact with your attacker. This part of the training will teach you key points to target on the head and body so that you can protect yourself from a sustained attack. About the IPDTAThe International Police Defensive Tactics Association who developed the system of ESDS was founded in 1996 by Slavo Gozdzik, a Swedish Police Officer. Slavo came up with the ESDS system because it came apparent to him that much of his martial arts training could not be used effectively in street situations where someone was being attacked or about to be attacked. The system was originally intended for use by Police Officers but has since gone on to be used for training more and more ordinary people who want an easy to learn and simple way to defend themselves and prevent being attacked.
